David Winterburn Curriculum Vitae

David has worked in the certification industry for over 25 years with both UKAS Accredited Certification and Notified Bodies. He first got interested in quality in the early 80’s as an inspector in a paper mill, since then, his passion has grown and expanded over the years to to include the environment, health & safety and energy management

David has had a varied and extensive career and has worked in the following industries;

    • Klockner Moeller / Moeller Electric; Design and build of electrical distribution boards, control panels, bus-bar trunking systems and electrical components

    • TWR Engines; Automotive engine design and build for the Aston Martin DB7

    • Wycombe Marsh Paper mills; Specialist paper manufacturing for the medical industry
  • Sales and stockholding
    • IMI Righton; Stockholders of non-ferrous metals, plastics and industrial fastenings
  • Security industry
    • Reliance Security; Mobile and static manned guarding
  • Automotive engineering and manufacture
    • Vauxhall Motors; Automotive manufacture

Following his Commercial Apprenticeship at Vauxhall Motors, David has had a number of roles ranging from Purchase Ledger Clerk to Inspector to Quality Assurance Manager to Certification Officer to regional Assessor to Certification Manager to Principal QMS Assessor

Whilst working in industry, David has implemented a number of management systems, which included paper mills, electrical engineering companies and automotive engine design companies.

With the Certification and Notified Bodies that David has worked for, he has undertaken in excess of 4,000 UKAS accredited third party quality, environmental, health & safety, energy  and product certification audits throughout the UK, Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and the USA.

David has also had military service in the British Army, serving in the Royal Artillery (RA) as an Observation Post Signaller and in the Royal Army Pay Corps (RAPC) as a Pay Sergeant. He was also an Aircraft Handling Instructor for fixed and rotary wing aircraft and the training for this was at the Joint Aircraft training Establishment (JATE) at RAF Brize Norton.

Over the years David has increased his competency in a number of fields to support the areas that he works in. These now include;

David also studied post graduate courses at the University of Reading and the University of Bath and successfully attained the following post graduate qualifications

  • An IQA survey on the use and implementation of BS 5750 standards by third party assessment bodies as seen by the end user (IQA)
